TLC Pediatrics offers ear piercing to any child over the age of 6 months
Below are some tips for the care of a new piercing:
1. Always wash hands before touching the newly pierced skin
2. Clean daily with a gentle fragrance free soap. Rinse thoroughly after washing.
3. Coat the opening of the piercing with petroleum jelly that comes in a squeeze tube (to avoid germs from the open jar transferring to the piercing). This promotes wound healing.
.4 Leave the original studs in for a minimum of 6 weeks, even overnight to avoid having the hole close prematurely.
Signs of infection include redness, pus, foul odor, warmth and an increase in pain. Please call our office right away if any of these symptoms occur.
